  About the Journal

'AYU' – An International Quarterly Journal of Research in Ayurveda, is published quarterly by Institute for Post Graduate Teaching & Research in Ayurveda, Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar. The full text of journal is accessible on website www.ayujournal.org. The journal allows free access(open access) to its contents and permits authors to self-archive final accepted version of the articles on any OAI-compliant institutional / subject-based repository. The journal does not charge for submission, processing or publication of manuscripts and for color reproduction of photographs. Started in 1964, the journal has continuously contributed for the research, education and propagation of Ayurveda on the national as well as international platform.

  About the Institute

In 1952, Govt. of India has established a central Institute of Research in Ayurveda at Jamnagar in the great palacious building named ‘Dhanvantari Mandir’, which was built for housing the Ayurvedic Institutions. On 20th July, 1956 a Post Graduate Training Centre in Ayurveda (PGTCA) was established in Jamnagar. Since 1967 after establishment of Gujarat Ayurved University; IPGT & RA is an integral part of Gujarat Ayurved University which offers Post Graduate and PhD levels of education in Ayurveda, Ayurvedic Pharmacy and Medicinal Plants. This institute is fully financed by Govt. of India and administered by University as per Gujarat Ayurved University Act 1965 as amended in 2003. The work force developed by this Institute forms the backbone of Ayurvedic Teaching, Research and Administration in India. In 1977, this Institute has been recognized as collaborative center of WHO for Ayurveda. Students from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives, Mauritius, etc. are studying in P.G. & Ph.D. courses. Top rating has been given to this Institute by Dept. of AYUSH in it’s internal grading. This Institute is Re-Designated as WHO collaborating centre for Traditional Medicines (Ayurveda).

  Scope of the Journal
The journal is devoted to the publication of original articles on the utilization of knowledge of Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicines. The spectrum of coverage is broad, encompassing all eight divisions of Ayurveda including clinical researches in Kayachikitsa (General medicine), Shalya Tantra (Surgery), Shalakya Tantra (ENT & Ophthalmology),Stri Roga Prasuti Tantra(Gynecology & Obstetrics), Kaumar Bhritya (Pediatrics); Drug researches in Dravyaguna (Pharmacology), Rasa Shastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana (Ayurvedic Pharmaceuticles), Literary researches in Maulika Siddhanta & Samhita (Basic Principles) along with History, Descriptions of herbal remedies, useful for the treatment of human aliments etc. It also deals with clinical and pharmacological evaluation of herbs, minerals, metals  and animal products, validation of food remedies, phytochemistry, ethnomedicine, survey of medicinal plants, nutraceuticals, drug standardization, biotechnology, agriculture, horticulture, pharmacovigilance etc. relating to medicinal plants. AYU also accepts standard review articles based on basic principles of Ayurveda, newly introduced diseases with their updated scientific knowledge in contemporary sciences. Digital Archiving

Wolters Kluwer Medknow provides for long-term digital preservation through two primary partnerships, Portico and CLOCKSS.

Portico is a leading digital preservation service worldwide. The content is preserved as an archival version and is not publically accessible via Portico, but is provided when required under specific conditions, such as discontinuation of the collection or catastrophic failure of the website.

CLOCKSS will enable any library to maintain their own archive of content from Wolters Kluwer Medknow and other publishers, with minimal technical effort and using cheaply available hardware.

Ahead of Print policy

Articles published online under the Ahead of Print model are considered published and can be cited and quoted using the DOI as the reference source. Wolters Kluwer Medknow has a policy that changes will not be made after publication of an article without following accepted procedures for making corrections to the scientific record.

Advertisements

While advertisements are crucial to this journal to be able to keep all content free for everyone, ethical considerations are in place to ensure the integrity of the journal and its content:

  • "Pop-up" and "banner" ads appear on a random, rotating basis. The advertiser has no control or input over the pages where their ads appear.
  • The Editorial Board has full and final approval over the content of all advertisements.
  • Advertisers will never be shown any manuscripts or other content prior to publication.
